Certificate Program Veterinarian Signup Information

Veterinarian Sign-up Information (veterinarians only)

Thank you for your interest in the Friends of Animals Spay/Neuter Certificate program. Founded in 1957, Friends of Animals, Inc., is a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting the abuse and abandonment of dogs and cats, and the resulting mass killings of these animals in our nation's pounds. We advocate prevention through reducing the number of dogs and cats born each year, by offering an affordable incentive for people to have their pets sterilized. In turn, veterinarians who participate in the program have the opportunity to foster broad and lasting relationships with these new clients.

In collaboration with our veterinarian friends, FoA has helped to spay and neuter more than 2 million animals in the U.S. through our certificate program. With your added support we can increase that number!

How FoA's Spay Neuter Certificate Program Works

The pet owner visits our web site, where they view details of the program and can request a list of participating veterinarians in their area, and may purchase a Spay/Neuter Certificate by credit card. They receive the Certificate within 7-10 days, at which time they make an appointment with a veterinarian.

Alternately, they call FoA's toll-free number (1-800-321-PETS). FoA mails them an order form that contains program instructions, costs of procedures, and a list of local participating veterinarians. The pet owner returns the order form and payment to FoA; FoA in turn sends them a Certificate redeemable for a cat/dog spay/neuter. From the initial phone call, this cycle takes approximately three weeks. Pet owner calls veterinarian for an appointment upon receipt of their Certificate.

At the time of surgery, the veterinarian accepts the FoA Certificate as full payment for the routine spay or neuter procedure. Non-routine services refer to pregnancy, prediagnosed infections, undescended testicles, estrus, animals six years or older, and dogs weighing 50 lbs. or more (see Veterinarian Agreement paragraph 2.8).

The veterinarian returns the Certificate to FoA. FoA supplies all materials needed to do so: code stamp, transmittal sheets, and postage-paid envelopes.

Upon receipt of the Certificate(s), FoA processes payment immediately.

What's next?

As soon as we receive your forms your practice is added to our list of Participating Veterinarians, so pet owners can benefit from your services — and you can benefit from the program — without delay.

In approximately two weeks, you will receive a starter packet containing an instruction sheet, transmittal sheet pad, code stamp, and postage-paid envelopes.

We thank you for your interest in our efforts. If you have any questions, call 1-800-321-PETS.

Please note: FoA charges our customers a higher fee for the Certificate; the difference is used to operate the Spay/Neuter program (which operates at a deficit).
